Tempus Two Copper Zenith Semillon 2004 has been named “Best White Wine in the Premium and Aged Vintage Classes” at this year’s Macquarie Group Sydney Royal Wine Show by being awarded the Dr Henry John Lindeman Memorial Perpetual Prize.
The who’s who of the Australian wine industry celebrated at last night’s awards dinner which is considered synonymous with winemaking excellence, and this year 2,290 wines were judged.
Tempus Two Semillon 2004 is fast building its credibility as a benchmark of its style, being recently awarded the Tyrrell Family Trophy at last year’s Hunter Valley Wine Show, Gold at 2009 Sydney Wine Show, Top Gold at 2008 Hunter Valley Wine Show and named in the Top 40 NSW Wine Awards in 2008.
“Coming off a drought affected year in 2003, the 2004 was a great vintage for Semillon in the Hunter Valley. The fruit for our 2004 Semillon was harvested from a dry-grown vineyard requiring no irrigation, a testament to the deep rooting soils and premium vines that have produced excellent fruit. Scott Comyns, Tempus Two Winemaker said.
“Following harvest, the handling of the fruit has been kept to a minimum, focusing on clean fruit processing with minimal oxidation; this simple winemaking process lets the quality of the vineyard speak for itself.”
An aged release, the 04 Copper Zenith Semillon is only available after four years of cellaring. Increasing the depth and complexity of flavour, the cellaring awakens rich toasty honey and peach flavours while retaining fresh and vibrant flavours of citrus, lemon and lime.
“There is still a beautiful refreshing acidity which is persistent in the wine. The 04 Copper Zenith Semillon is sure to only get better with age.” Winemaker, Scott Comyns said.
